And yet, in a lot of people\u2019s experience, mentioning the micro nature of their department immediately brings about discussions on the challenges and constraints that presents.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Although that\u2019s only really a conversation when it comes to work and people. If you moved into a small space, you\u2019d immediately start thinking about how to maximise it &#8211; you realise the limitations, but you\u2019re more determined to get the most from it. When there\u2019s no room for a king-size bed, it\u2019s the mindset that changes and not the space.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s the view you should take when it comes to any department that\u2019s \u2018on the small size\u2019. It\u2019s not a weakness, but it should force you to focus and make sure you\u2019re not wasting the time and people at your disposal. And that\u2019s especially true in the world of people development because so much hinges on your L&amp;D strategy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The good news is that there are a few ways you can pull this off in your learning and development team, and we\u2019re diving into them from here!<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Reducing the content creation burden on yourself<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s something most of us wish we\u2019d said to the star player on any of our school sports teams, but stop trying to do everything yourself! Except this time, it\u2019s less about frustration with their greed and more about realising we don\u2019t need to create every piece of learning content ourselves.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why? If you\u2019re in a smaller team, that\u2019s really counterproductive because the chances are that relevant content already exists in many cases. Or it\u2019s there to an extent that you could tweak it to fit your purpose! Maybe it just needs a couple of bookends to add the context for your business? In the same way that knowledge lives in third party sites, it\u2019s also there inside the minds of your subject matter experts. And you\u2019ll probably find there\u2019s a lot more contextual relevance to your company or industry when you <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.liquid-themes.com\/hownow\/knowledge-sharing\/\">leverage internal knowledge<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is why learner-generated content entered the L&amp;D picture! Whether you want to label it as peer or social knowledge sharing, there\u2019s a huge amount that people in your organisation can learn from each other. You won\u2019t convert everyone, but enough people could help you create a snowball effect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That can happen informally on a day-to-day basis, especially if you\u2019ve got a learning platform that lets anyone create content in a few easy steps \ud83d\ude09. In a more formal sense, you can look at <a href=\"https:\/\/staging.liquid-themes.com\/hownow\/mentoring-and-coaching\/\">pairing coaches\/mentors with mentees<\/a> to help impart that wisdom and close skills gaps. If it needs to go through a design process, feedback loop and sign-off, you might well miss the window in which that information truly matters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wrapped up with this is the concept of microlearning. People should be able to access and understand a resource just as quickly and easily as you can create it &#8211; that\u2019s why specific and easy-to-follow microlearning resources are so well-received.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> For example, if there\u2019s a lack of clarity on how to tag customers in your system, creating and distributing a quick video or guide on how to do it is vital to nipping that in the bud. Wait weeks for a slickly designed course and the damage might already be done.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>Making the most out of your learning platform<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Where are you spending a lot of your time? And is there a way your learning platform could help cut that down? The whole point of the tools and systems we use is to make our lives easier or manage more efficiently to boost productivity.
